Van Halen Reunion Tour Back On?
antiMusic reports: Melodic Rock is reporting that Van Halen are going ahead with their planned reunion tour with David Lee Roth. The band now consisting of David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen and Eddie's son Wolfgang Van Halen have reportedly gotten together and are "penciling in" dates and venues for what Melodic Rock says will be a US tour starting in September. No official word has come out yet.

In February, after much hype and tentative announcements the planned Van Halen reunion tour was called off. The band then cancelled plans to perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. 

What happened? In March Eddie Van Halen entered rehab for a month long stay to be treated for alcohol-related problems. - more on this story

Relient K Bus Fire
antiMusic reports: Relient K's bus caught on fire Thursday morning while the band was on their way to a show in Illinois. The bus fire broke out at about 3:20am while traveling on the Pennsylvania Turnpike after performing Wednesday night at the Cornerstone music festival in Mount Union, Pa.. 

Most of the band members were awoken when the bus driver yelled for them to get off the burning bus. Frontman Matt Thiessen first spotted the flames and alerted the driver. No one was injured but there was extensive damage to the bus and the group lost personal property as well as instruments, sound equipment and merch. Thiessen told the local press that he lost a laptop computer that contained approximately 100 unfinished songs. - more on this story

Deadly Aerosmith Ride
Blabbermouth reports: BBC News reports that French police are investigating the mysterious death of a 14-year-old girl who lost consciousness earlier in the week while riding on Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith at Disneyland Paris. 

The Spanish teenager’s friends noticed she was unconscious when the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster ride had stopped. Medical teams at the theme park tried to revive her but by the time an ambulance arrived, the girl had died. 

A preliminary inspection of the roller coaster found no machinery malfunction, but the ride remains closed.- more on this story

Kenny G Assault
Jam! reports: Investigators are trying to determine who threw objects from a bluff-top compound owned by musician Kenny G that struck a 9-year-old girl on the head. 

The incident happened June 23 when Brooke Porter was at the beach with her family and she was hit in the head, according to Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives. She needed four stitches to close her wound. 

Sheriff's officials said they believe two teens on the musician's property - neither related to him - threw the objects that hit Brooke more than 15 metres below.

Linkin Stalker Plea
Jam! reports: A former national laboratory worker has admitted that she used government computers to access the e-mail account of Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington and hacked into a cellphone company's website to obtain his phone number. 

Devon Townsend, 28, appeared Friday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Scott and pleaded guilty to charges including stalking and unlawful access to stored communications.

Rod Stewart Injured
Launch reports: Rod Stewart has been taken to hospital after slipping over at a gig in Manchester last night (June 28). 

The 62-year-old needed 10 stitches in his leg after he fell on a step at the beginning of his City Of Manchester Stadium gig.

Despite the slip, the singer carried on performing before he was eventually treated by a doctor today (June 29).

Sony Drop Prince CD Because of Giveaway
Gigwise reports: Sony BMG have announced they will no longer be releasing Prince’s new album after his decision to give away thousands of copies for free. 

The singer-songwriter has agreed to give away copies of ‘Planet Earth’ with the Mail On Sunday, with ticket holders for one of his upcoming 21 gigs at London’s O2 Arena also receiving a CD.

Slayer Fan Hospitalized After Fall
Blabbermouth reports: A 22-year-old man is in critical condition after jumping from a bridge during SLAYER's headlining show at the Metaltown festival in Gothenburg, Sweden late Saturday night (June 30), according to GT. 

The Göta-Älv bridge is located just opposite the main stage and a lot of people stand on the bridge and watch the performances from a distance. 

SLAYER was about an hour into its show when the 22-year-old man and a friend stripped down to their underwear. As the crowd cheered on, the two counted down and were about to jump off when one of them decided not to go through with the "joke" and watched as his friend hurled himself from the 30-meter-high bridge. When the jumper didn't resurface, his friend screamed that someone should call the emergency number 112. The jumper was later found unconcious in the water and medical personnel performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him. He was rushed to the emergency room and is currently in critical condition.- more on this story

Timbaland Retiring
Launch reports: Timbaland has reportedly said that he is ready to quit the music industry and name a successor. 

The superproducer, who has masterminded hits by Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado and released a solo album earlier this year, said in a recent interview that he is "about to throw in the towel" because he is bored with the current state of affairs in the music industry.

"Music is boring right now. I'm too innovative for the world," he told Gigwise.

Heaven and Hell Fall Tour Dates
antiMusic reports: Dio era Black Sabbath, now known as Heaven and Hell had so much fun touring America they decided to do it again. The band will head out on the road in September for a cross country trek that will also include Alice Cooper and Queensryche. 

The tour is set to kick off on September 5th in Binghamton, New York and conclude on October 6th in Irvine, Ca. Heaven and Hell features Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and drummer Vinny Appice.

Net Radio Royalty Cap
TuneLab reports: SoundExchange has proposed a cap on the minimum fees charged against royalties for recordings played on Internet Radio. 

Payments would be capped at $2,500 per service instead of the $500 minimum fee per station or channel which is set to go into effect on July 15th. 

Negotiations are currently taking place with small commercial and non-commercial webcasters who provide below-market rates under the terms of the Small Webcaster Settlement Act.- more rock news

Metallica Eye Early 08 Release for New CD
Rockdirt reports: Belgium's Studio Brussel caught up with Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich at the 2007 Rock Werchter Festival over the weekend, where he talked about the band's forthcoming album. 

Lars said the backing tracks were done in May and will start vocals and overdubs in August hoping to finish in October or November. 

Lars predicted the album will drop in February 2008. He said, "It doesn't sound like 'St. Anger' to me. It's a little early to kind of put in a soundbite exactly. But it doesn't sound anything like 'St. Anger'. It's probably a little more dynamic, and a little more varied, and it has lots of different nutty Metallica stuff on it. Winehouse Hospitalized
Gigwise reports: Amy Winehouse has cancelled tonight’s (July 4) gig at Liverpool Summer Pops, amid fears the singer has been hospitalised. 

There is no official word from Winehouse’s camp on the reason for the cancellation, but Gigwise has learnt from sources at the Summer Pops site that it’s because she is in hospital. The exact condition is not known. 

Many of the thousands of fans arrived at the Summer Pops tent for the show, only to be told that it had been cancelled.

Fans Not Buying It
BBC reports: Global CD sales have slumped "more in 2006 than had been expected", according to an industry report. 

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) said sales last year dropped to 1.7bn, compared with 1.9bn in 2005.

Smashing US Tour
CMJ reports: Tired of the newly reformed Smashing Pumpkins already? Billy Corgan and company beg to differ, as the band has confirmed a sweeping North American tour to support the July 10 release of Zeitgeist (Martha's Music/Reprise). 

Taking to the road September 8 in Montreal, the Smashing Pumpkins will embark on coast-to-coast trek, with stops in Las Vegas, Boston, Philadelphia and Atlanta confirmed thus far. 

Currently underway with their first of two residency sets in Ashville, North Carolina, the seminal '90s radio dominators will head to San Francisco for an 11-night run at the Fillmore before venturing to Europe for 10 headlining festival slots.

Morrissey Cancels More Shows
Contact Music reports: Morrissey has been forced to cancel more shows on his US tour due to a continued viral infection.

After performing at a gig in Virginia, the former Smiths singer saw a throat specialist in Washington DC and was told he could not perform before July 7th at the earliest.

This means that concerts scheduled in Atlantic City and Holmdel have now been postponed.

Hy Zaret RIP
Gigwise reports: The lyricist who wrote the words for the timeless ‘Unchained Melody’ has died at the ripe old age of 99. 

Hy Zaret was just one month off his 100th birthday when he died at his Connecticut home. 

The song was originally written alongside composer Alex North and appeared in the movie Unchained back in 1955.

Avril Song Theft Expands
PR reports: Songwriters Tommy Dunbar and James Gangwer have filed suit against pop princess Avril Lavigne and others, alleging that her smash hit song “Girlfriend” is copied from their song “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend,” first performed and recorded by the Bay Area new wave power pop quartet The Rubinoos of which Dunbar was a founding member.

The suit, Dunbar, et al. v. Gottwald, et al., filed in the Federal District Court in San Francisco, and amended today to add new allegations and parties, charged Lavigne, her co-writer Luke Gottwald and others with copyright infringement and seeks damages for copying the plaintiffs’ song without permission. United States Magistrate Judge Wayne Brazil has set a first court date in the case for August 28th in Oakland.- a lot more on this story

Clive Free Clarkson Outsells Past CD, But Still No 2
Reuters reports: In a battle between two top-selling female acts, Miley Cyrus triumphed over Kelly Clarkson to score the No. 1 position on the U.S. pop album charts Wednesday. 

The confusingly titled double album "Hannah Montana 2 (Soundtrack)/Meet Miley Cyrus" sold 326,000 units during the week ended July 1, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Clarkson's "My December" opened at No. 2 with 291,000, an improvement upon her previous release [250,000. Bon Jovi dropped to 3rd place with sales of 125K].

Timberlake To Perform with Duran Duran 
Gigwise reports: Live Earth has a pretty impressive line-up of acts so far, and now we know the newest addition to the bill – Mr Justin Timberlake.
