Ronnie James Dio's Final Recording Online?- Avenged Sevenfold Almost Quit- Glee Vs Rolling Stones- New Guns N' Roses Release- Colosseum Singer Dies- more

Ozzy Osbourne told QMI Agency that Ronnie James Dio's ultimately fatal battle with stomach cancer hit close to home. "As soon as I heard I heard he had been diagnosed with cancer, I sent him some encouragement," Osbourne said. "Having been through that situation myself with (my wife) Sharon when we were doing (the reality TV show) 'The Osbournes', it's always somebody over there. When it lands at your doorstep you're like, 'What do you do? How do you get round this?' When Sharon got (colon) cancer, I'd never known anyone who survived. I thought it was bulls*** when they told you, 'They can survive.' I just thought they were trying to smooth me over. And she got over it." more

But, quickly, that went away because your logic comes back to you. You start to realize that, had it been you, you would have shuddered at the thought of the rest of the guys not continuing." more

Industry gurus seem to think the "Glee: Showstoppers" soundtrack will debut at No. 1, selling perhaps 80,000 to 100,000 copies by week's end on May 23, according to Billboard but there's a chance that the Rolling Stones' reissue of its 1972 album "Exile on Main Street," could give the Gleeks a run for its money for the No 1 spot more. Rob Zombie's latest album won't be his last released in CD format. "This has been the longstanding rumour that I've answered about ninety thousand times now," he explains. "What I said was, I was afraid the industry was going digital so fast that they wouldn't even be making CDs by my next record. But if people are pressing CDs, so shall I." more

Addiction, Not Scott Weiland Killed Velvet Revolver
(Rock Radio) Slash doesn't blame Scott Weiland for the controversies that led to the singer's departure from Velvet Revolver. In fact, the guitarist believes the whole band became victims to their chemical addictions – only Weiland suffered worse than his colleagues.

The singer recently said he wishes Velvet Revolver well. Now, after the pair spent time together recently Slash tells Spinner.com: "I still love the guy and there's not any hard feelings.

"Velvet Revolver was intended to be a lot of fun and we started off having a great time, but I think we all had chemical issues as the thing wore on." He said. "Scott had his issues. Even Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum went down the same road. The only one who stayed sober was Dave Kushner." - more on this story

Country Roots Rockin' Foo Fighter
Chris Shiflett is already known as the lead guitarist for Foo Fighters and the frontman for Jackson United. Now his other group, Chris Shiflett & The Dead Peasants will release their eponymous debut album on July 13, 2010 on Le Coq Napoleon/RCA.

Steeped in his love for classic country artists (Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings), rockabilly (Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran), and deep-rooted rock bands (The Rolling Stones, The Replacements), this new album is packed with soulful pedal steel- and twang guitar-accented songs.

The album highlights his talent and versatility not only as a skillful guitarist, but also as a songwriter. These infectious Americana-laced rock songs are some of the best he's penned, from the chiming keys and buoyant, ringing guitars of "Get Along" to the pedal steel- and mandolin-lined heartache of "Bandaged," and from the spry, Old 97s-ian "Baby, Let It Out" to the rueful country swing of "Death March." - more on this story

Captain, We're Sinking Giving Away Live EP
Captain, We're Sinking has posted for free download a live EP titled Live At Fest 8. The EP includes tracks from a performance at a warehouse show the night before The Fest in Gainesville, FL. Bassist Zack Charett explains:

We set out from Philly and headed straight through to Florida. It was us along with Bill's brother Vinny, Joe Rogers and Shawn. Lots of cigs, tall boys of Arizona and bags of chips. Later we roll up to to meet with our boys American Armada, it's like 2 in the am. All of us were looking like some zonked weirdos from being trapped in a van for an indefinite amount of hours, when Cory Aramda says "You guys wanna play?" And we did. It was pretty rad and it is what it is. I had no idea it was being recorded and probaly would have begged them not to if i had, but f***! It's not to shabby for some sleep deprived fools!

Today also marks the release of the It's A Trap 7" through Kind Of Like Records. The EP is currently available for free download through If You Make It - here

Singled Out: To Speak Of Wolves' Darkness Often Yields the Brightest Light
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Phil Chamberlain from metalcore rockers To Speak Of Wolves tells us about "Darkness Often Yields the Brightest Light" from their brand new album "Myself < Letting Go," which hit stores this week. We now turn it over to Phil for the story:

Our bass player Will McCutcheon actually came up with the opening riff. We were in the studio and needed another song to complete the record. Will showed us that riff and we really dug it. Corey Doran and Aaron Kisling had a few riffs they had been toying around with and it all pretty much came together in one afternoon at the studio. The chorus was the last part of the song to be written guitar wise. We wanted something we could sing over and tried a few different riffs until we came up with the final version.

Once we laid the scratch guitar tracks down, I wanted to start the song with drums, since only one other song on the record starts that way. We tapped out a crazy beat on the computer desk while playing along to the scratch track and then I went in and laid down all the drum parts. We also built the second verse around the drum beat I wanted to use there.

The lyrics Rick Jacobs had been working on for a while and the vocal pattern for the chorus came together with help from our producer Brooks Paschal.

We were super stoked on the way the song came together. It was fun to write the last song for the record in the studio. Everyone put in something to the song and we had a great time doing it.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
